How can you tell if a guy's interested in you?

My friend and i have maintained a platonic relationship, but recently i've notice he's been staring at me a lot, at parties he's always navigating towards me and he's been getting closer to me than normal, for instance complimenting my perfume and such. And he did something that made me wonder. I went to hug him and he lifted me up and squeezed me super tightly. He's never done this before and i'm confused. i'm interested in him but idk if he is interested in me? Could he be?
